The Number 12
The ancient Babylonians, who developed what is now Western Astrology, split the heavens into 12 equal sections. Scholars note that Judaismappropriated the number 12 from the Babylonians, in the Old Testament, Jacob had 12 sons, who created the 12 tribes of Israel. Christianity borrowed from the Babylonians as well, specifically, Jesus had 12 apostles in the New Testament, which represented the tribes of Israel. After Jesus had been finished feeding the 5,000 people, his disciples gathered 12 baskets full of leftovers. In the Qur’an, God appoints 12 leaders over the people of Israel and divides Israel into 12 tribes. Maybe it is a coincidence that there just happened to be 12 signs in the Zodiac and astrology predates these religions.
